Interested in selling
your raw wool?
WHAT IS IT:
WOOL4SOIL is shredded, heat treated, and pelletized raw wool. This wool could be second rate wool or it could be wool heavy in vegetable matter. This oftentimes trashed or wasted product is a natural and renewable resource that when mixed in the soil slow releases nitrogen, potassium, and other micronutrients for optimal plant growth and health. They biodegrade in about 6 months and can hold up to 3X their weight in water providing drought resiliency.
Wool is an excellent slow release natural fertilizer and soil amendment capable of increasing water intention, air flow, and drought. When wool is incorporated into the soil it is a slow releasing wonder of plant goodness for long term health for both indoor and outdoor plants. WOOL4SOIL is heat treated protecting your plants and killing weed seeds, can be used as a mulch or in the soil, and wool and lanolin have been shown to be all natural pest repellants.
WOOL4SOIL has a mission to purchase raw wool from local sheep wool farmers and create pelletized wool available for direct sale at farmers markets and local garden and nursery centers.
WHO WE ARE:
We’re a small family farm in Sussex County, DE. The big dream is to grow our from scratch sheep dairy, and while we’ve been selling meat and doing small batch things with our wool, as we’ve grown the problem with what to do with our wool has also grown. A problem for a lot of wool sheep producers and we’re hoping to be the answer.
One of the things that drew us to the sheep dairy model was the seasonality of it. Which I believe allows us to pursue a little diversification in our business. Thereby devoting portions of our year to WOOL4SOIL. One of our biggest philosophies in farming has been ‘no waste’ and wool pellets fit into our model quite well.
We’ve had more and more people reaching out to donate wool for our WOOL4SOIL efforts but by next year we really want to be able to pay producers for their wool and create a business model that truly supports local wool sheep farmers.
Debuting at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival 2024,
and Berlin Farmers Market.
